The Rocky Horror Show, starring Adam Strong as Dr Frank-N-Furter, is coming to Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre

A musical that started as Richard O’Brien’s rock ‘n’ roll tribute to B-movies and has since become a global cult classic is back on the road for another nationwide tour.

The Rocky Horror Show is celebrating more than 50 years on stage by visiting theatres — and crowds of fans dressed up in costumes — across the country, including six nights in Canterbury.

The sci-fi comedy stars Adam Strong, who has previously appeared in productions such as We Will Rock You and Disney’s Aladdin, stepping into the high heels of Dr Frank-N-Furter and comedian Nathan Caton as the sharp-tongued Narrator.

“I haven’t played Frank before until this tour; it has always been a dream and goal of mine,” says Adam. “It’s such an empowering role, and I get to sing all of my favourite songs and be part of the musical’s history.

“I've been a massive Rocky Horror Show fan for many, many years, and I've studied many different Franks, so for me it just felt like the right fit.

“The fans are so supportive of the show. I get a lot of gifts, which is very kind as I love show memorabilia.”

The musical follows a newly engaged couple, Brad and Janet, as they take a trip to visit an old college professor.

When their car breaks down, they are forced to knock on the door of a nearby house and find themselves swept up in the seductive world of Dr Frank-N-Furter and his unusual band of followers.

The Rocky Horror Show made its debut at London’s Royal Court Theatre in 1973 and was adapted into a feature film starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Meat Loaf and Richard O’Brien in 1975.

It features musical hits such as the Time Warp, Dammit Janet and Hot Patootie (Bless My Soul).

The Rocky Horror Show will be at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury from Monday, July 7 to Saturday, July 12. You can book tickets here.
