Maidstone: Leeds Castle Chelsea Fringe with a miniature maze and gardens in a shed

If you’ve ever tackled the Leeds Castle maze and found it quite tricky, there’s a simpler version being unveiled this weekend – and it’s edible.

Floral festivities at the castle to mark Chelsea Fringe, the fringe to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, include turning the gardening world inside out and creating miniature gardens in a shed.

Peek through the entrance to see a mini replica of the castle’s Woodland Walk, the Lady Baillie Mediterranean Garden and the Culpeper Garden, a classic cottage garden. And look out for the miniature maze made of cress (but please don’t eat it).

Along with information about some of the castle plants, there’s also a guide that tells you where you can see them “full size”.

Other horticultural happenings include, on Wednesday, May 24 to Wednesday, May 31, during the Chelsea Fringe Festival, the gardening team will be giving specialist talks on the gardens’ history and their upkeep, as well as tips on looking after your own garden.

Children can join an interactive wildlife walk on Sunday, May 21 at 11.30am where they can spot creatures in their natural habitats with the help of an exciting ‘eye spy’ trail card. Meet at the main entrance to join in the fun.
