Things to do across Kent for Mother’s Day 2022, including spa breaks, theatre shows and spring gardens

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and it’s the perfect time to show our mums just how much they mean to us. If you’re still looking for ways to treat your mum, we’ve got some great ideas she’s sure to love…

Hever Castle, Sevenoaks

Celebrate the special day with a host of fun activities in this beautiful location. The historic castle and surrounding gardens are the perfect place for the family to spend a day out together, from children to grandparents, and there will be plenty to do across the weekend. There will be free craft workshops where children can decorate their own gifts, themed photo opportunities to capture memorable moments and the picturesque gardens full of spring flowers.

The grounds will be open from 10.30am to 4.30pm on Saturday, March 26 and 10.30am to 6pm on Sunday, March 27. Adult tickets start from £19.80. Book online here.

Historic Dockyard Chatham

If your mum is a fan of BBC drama Call the Midwife, you can whisk her off to a special behind-the-scenes tour of the set at the Historic Dockyard Chatham. Together, you can explore the locations of famous scenes and follow the footsteps of Nurse Trixie Franklin, Sister Julienne and Dr Turner. The walking tour is led by an expert guide who will take you through the cobbled streets and inside buildings from the show, before taking you to the dockyard’s exclusive Call the Midwife exhibition featuring authentic props and costumes.

The Hop Farm, Tonbridge

For a great family day out, the Hop Farm is the perfect destination. You can tuck into a tasty three-course lunch, with a glass of prosecco (or non-alcoholic tipple) and special gift for mum, all in the Hop Farm's charming oak-beamed suite. You can then walk off your meal with a wander around the hop museum and a visit to the farm's adorable spring animals - all included with your lunch booking. The Hop Farm isn't usually open for visitors until the Easter holidays but is being opened especially for those dining at the Mother's Day lunch, so this is an exclusive chance to explore the grounds without the crowds.

Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury

If your mum is a fan of the musicals, why not take her to see one of the all-time classics? The West End production of Singin’ in the Rain will be making a splash at Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre all week leading up to Mother’s Day, so whether you’re in the mood for a matinee or fancy a night on the town, this feel-good musical, starring Faye Tozer, is a must-see. And if you and your mum have one too many interval drinks, you still have all day to recover together on Sunday!

Penshurst Place, Tonbridge

If you haven't already bought your mum a gift for Mother's Day, then a visit to Penshurst Place is a must. The stately home's gift shop will be specially decorated with a Mother's Day theme and will be selling a host of fantastic gift ideas, from pampering treats to delicious chocolates and stylish homeware. There will also be a selection of 'pocket money presents' for children to choose from. Once you're all spent out in the gift shop, you can take your mum for a relaxing walk through the Grade I listed gardens to see the spring flowers in bloom.
