Harry Styles and Kenneth Branagh – they may not be there in the flesh, but the costumes they wore for an upcoming summer blockbuster are on show in Kent.

The pop-up exhibition of costumes from the film Dunkirk - which will be screened in cinemas from Friday, July 21 - is at Dover Castle until the end of August.

The exhibition for the Christopher Nolan film by Warner Bros Pictures, which also stars Tom Hardy, is staged in the secret wartime tunnels beneath the castle, where the massive rescue attempt at Dunkirk was conceived in 1940.

It features the costumes of three principal characters – Tommy, played by Fionn Whitehead, Alex, played by Harry Styles and Commander Bolton, played by Kenneth Branagh – and are on exclusive UK display.

English Heritage senior curator Rowena Willard Wright said: “We are delighted to host this exclusive pop-up exhibition in conjunction with the new film.

“Dover Castle’s Secret Wartime tunnels are an ideal location, as they were where Admiral Ramsay masterminded the 'miracle of Dunkirk' from them.

“He and the men and women of the Royal Navy worked around the clock to muster all available shipping, from naval destroyers to pleasure steamers, in order support his Senior Naval Officer in Dunkirk, Captain Tennant, and to provide the lifeline that saved more than 338,000 allied troops.”

The film, which was shot on location in France, Holland, England and Los Angeles, opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces.

Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea, they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.

The film will be distributed by Warner Bros Pictures, a Warner Bros Entertainment Company.

Entry to the exhibition is included within the general admission ticket to Dover Castle and will form part of the Operation Dynamo guided tour experience.
