Secret location courtroom drama Terror comes to Tunbridge Wells

A courtroom drama where audience members play the part of the jury is to be staged in a secret location.

It has taken more than a year for managers at the Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells to put together the production of Terror.

Written by Ferdinand von Schirach, it has been performed in the Lyric Hammersmith in 2017.

It tells of a hijacked plane heading towards a packed football stadium. Ignoring orders to the contrary, a fighter pilot shoots the plane down – killing 164 people to save 70,000.

Put on trial and charged with murder, the audience will decide the verdict.

Trinity Theatre artistic director John Martin, who also produced and directed the show, said: “This project has been more than 18 months in the planning, I could not be more thrilled to have been able to assemble this wonderful cast of talented actors to bring this brilliant play to life.”

Such was the buzz around the production, more than 2,000 actors auditioned to be in the show. The final cast chosen are Robert Rowe as the judge, Kirsten Hazel Smith for the defence and Elinor Lawless for the prosecution. The play has original music by Tony Stenson.

Audiences will meet at location to be disclosed after they have booked, close to the court where they will convene for jury selection before being taken to the courtroom where they will hear the evidence in real-time, performed by a cast of professional actors. Each of the four juries will elect a foreman and reach a verdict. Delivering their verdicts in court, sentencing or acquittal will then take place.

This will give audiences a unique experience, great drama and the chance to see how a court works and an opportunity to discuss and determine the outcome of the pertinent issues in the play.

There are 48 seats for each performance. It will run until Sunday, June 16. Book tickets at trinitytheatre.net or call 01892 678678.
