Hythe Venetian Fete this week on the Royal Military Canal

A floating extravaganza is promised at this week's Hythe Venetian Fete.

A raft of decorated floats will be setting sail down the Royal Military Canal on Wednesday, August 21.

The bi-annual event is popular with visitors who flock to see the unusual water-based afternoon and evening carnival.

Gates open at 4pm ahead of live music to entertain visitors. At 7pm the event is officially opened and the daylight parade will set off.

After the daylight events there is a break while spectators enjoy the on-site funfair, stalls and refreshments as well as live entertainment and music.

There will be a fireworks display around 8.50pm before the floats are illuminated at dusk and make their way along the water again.

Clubs, organisations, charities and businesses all take part in the event with prizes for best floral, best dressed rowers, best illuminated and for the best overall entry.
