Whitstable Town Football Club to hold special fan event this Saturday to celebrate FA Vase win

Whitstable Town fans will be able to get their photo taken with the club’s FA Vase trophy and meet the players at a special event this weekend.

The club has revealed it is also exploring the possibility of a ‘victory parade’ through the town centre on Saturday as it looks for ways to celebrate its historic Wembley win.

More than 7,000 football fans made the trip to London last Sunday to watch the Oystermen become the first Kent side in 25 years to win the Vase, after a nail-biting final against AFC Whyteleafe that finished 2-1 in extra time thanks to a late winner by Ronald Sithole.

To enable families to have a photo with the trophy, meet players, collect signatures and watch the presentation of end-of-season player awards, a fan event is being held at the Primcura Healthcare Stadium in Belmont Road from 11.30am this Saturday.

The ticketed event - to help the club control and manage numbers and meet safety requirements - costs £2 each and all are welcome.

Those wishing to go along can buy their tickets in advance from the club’s own online ticketing platform.

Chairman Steve Clayton said: “We want Whitstable to share in that glory. That 12th man was really important and it’s a way of saying thank you.”

Mr Clayton said board members have been working closely with authorities this week over the possibility of a parade on Saturday, which they still hoped ‘to get over the line’ and would announce on social media and via the website if confirmed.

Saturday’s events will be particularly poignant for manager Jamie Coyle who this week announced his intention to retire from playing non-league football from next season.

He wants to concentrate 100% on managing Whitstable Town from the sidelines, with the club’s sights now set on working towards promotion.

He said: “In terms of non-league football, that will be me (finished) and concentrating on coaching and managing because I've had to put a lot of pressure on my management team.

“For me now, I need to concentrate on the other side and try and develop our players and try and get us out of the (Southern Counties East) league.”
