Mysterious rotting animal heads have washed up at a beauty spot leaving beachgoers shocked.
The unidentified but recently butchered skulls surfaced at West Beach in Whitstable this week.
A horrified dog-walker told of the bizarre moment her cocker spaniel repeatedly sniffed out eight decomposing heads over several days.
Describing the various moments Scooby unearthed the grizzly remains, Janine Hanson said: “It was shocking to come across.
“Initially, I was thinking, ‘Well, what is it?’
“It’s got half a head of teeth, obviously. I could tell they weren’t human.
“But it’s disgusting, and worrying also knowing that dogs or children on half-term could be playing with a rotting animal head.”
The Whitstable resident was walking her dog at the beach on Friday (October 24) when Scooby sniffed out the first skull.
Then, two days later in the same area, the pup alerted Ms Hanson to another five heads, and a further two on Monday.
“My dog shoots off like a bullet when he gets a scent. He’s a 22-week-old puppy and he likes his food.
“There is a group that swims all year round at this beach, obviously, we’ve had a lot of sewage releases down here.
“But I’d like to think that the water company wasn’t spouting out disembodied heads.”
Canterbury City Council officers inspected the shoreline yesterday and recovered some remains.
A spokesperson said yesterday: “Five pieces of bone were collected and will be disposed of.
“We can't categorically state what animal they are from.
“We could determine that they had been butchered, with clean cut marks, but we do not know where they came from or how they came to be on our shoreline.”
