Hundreds of homes continue to face water supply outages this morning.
South East Water says customers in Whitstable and Seasalter are still facing no water or low pressure today (July 6).
It is now the sixth day of continuous supply issues across Kent, with problems having started in Herne Bay on Tuesday – the hottest day of the year.
The company’s incident manager, Nick Bell, said: “We are so very sorry to our customers in Whitstable, Seasalter and surrounding areas who are still experiencing no water or low pressure today (Sunday).
“We know this is not the service our customers expect, nor is it the service we want to provide and we’re very sorry for the impact this is having.
“Our teams have been working 24/7 to remove trapped air in a key pipeline which moves water between two drinking water storage tanks between Canterbury and Whitstable.
“It's the storage tank just outside Whitstable which supplies the area’s water.
“Around 500 properties in the area are still having supply issues, but we have five tankers pumping water into the local area so some customers may see intermittent supplies.”
Bottled water stations remain open between 9am and 9pm at Sainsbury’s in Reeves Way and at 129C Faversham Rd in Seasalter.
Meanwhile, outages have since returned to Herne Bay having initially been resolved.
The company outages in the Collard Close area this morning are being caused by a burst main on the network which is causing supply issues.
It added: “This is proving to be quite complex so we can't give you an estimated completion time at the moment.
“Once again, we're really sorry for the interruption. We know how disruptive it is to be without water and we're doing everything we can to get you up and running as soon as possible.”
Yesterday, about 200 homes were impacted by outages in Dunkirk, which has since been resolved.
The village, between Faversham and Canterbury, was affected by South East Water facing issues with its storage tank.
In an update at 6pm, the company confirmed water had been restored in the area.
On Wednesday (July 2), it said up to 3,000 customers in Whitstable, Seasalter and surrounding areas had no water or low pressure due to the recent heatwave.
It came after thousands more homes in Herne Bay were left with dry taps on Tuesday – the hottest day of the year so far.
Seasalter councillor Naomi Smith (Lab) has criticised the response to the outage.
“They have put the water station four miles away from where the problem is,” she said.
“They have given water to people who don’t need it and missed people who desperately need it. South East Water can’t cope with the basic needs of supplying water.”
