Sydney Road in Whitstable closed as fire crews battle blaze

A road has been sealed off as crews battle a house blaze.

Police and firefighters were called to the scene in Sydney Road, Whitstable, just before 2.10pm after black smoke was seen billowing from a second floor window at the semi-detached home.

Residents have been urged to avoid the area as crews attempt to quell the blaze.

Three fire engines and 13 firefighters are in Sydney Road, which has been closed.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "We are at the scene of a fire in Sydney Road, Whitstable.

"Crews were called at 2.08pm to reports of black smoke issuing from a second floor window of the semi-detached house.

"Three fire engines and 13 firefighters are dealing with the blaze.

"Sydney Road is currently closed, please avoid the area while firefighting operations are taking place."
