Sainsbury’s Local in Whitstable High Street reopens after cash stolen in break-in

A High Street Sainsbury’s Local has reopened after police taped the store off to investigate a break in.

Patrol cars and a forensic vehicle were seen at the shop in Whitstable yesterday morning.

Officers attended after an intruder alarm sounded at 3.38am, and discovered that cash was missing from the tills.

A police spokesman added: “We were contacted following an intruder alarm at a shop in Whitstable High Street at 3.38am on Sunday 2 March 2025.

“It was established that cash had been stolen from the store's tills.

“Crime scene investigators have since been carrying out enquiries and an investigation to identify those responsible is ongoing.

“Anyone with information should call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting reference 46/35129/25.

The store is open as usual today.

Speaking shortly after the break-in yesterday, a Sainsbury’s spokesman said: “Our Whitstable High Street Local store is temporarily closed following an incident, and we are supporting the police with their investigation.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."
