Organisers of some of the Canterbury district’s most gruelling sporting challenges are offering sea swim training to those preparing to take on this summer’s events.
Active Life, which organises both Whitstable’s annual Oysterman Triathlon and Herne Bay’s Pier to Pier Swim, is running a series of beginner and intermediate courses.
Open to anyone looking to try or train for a multi-discipline or sea swimming event, the sessions are designed to help build confidence, skill and ability, say organisers.
‘Swim, Bike, Run’ events will take place on May 24 and June 28 at Herons Leisure Centre and an open water triathlon training day will take place at Tankerton Slopes in Whitstable on Sunday, July 20.
Experienced coaches will guide people through activities designed to improve endurance, speed, and technique that will include guidance in the sea, cycling tips and tricks on the course itself, running drills and biomechanical discussion before a mock triathlon race simulation.
Swimmers with some sea swimming experience can also take part in a six-hour weekend course for those looking to develop their technique and open water stamina that will include theory at Whitstable Swimming Pool and sea sessions from Tankerton lifeguard hut.
