A group of travellers have pitched up at a popular open space.
Ten caravans set up camp in Plough Lane, near Long Rock and Swalecliffe Brook, near Whitstable.
A spokesman for the city council said: “We recognise it's an area of open space that is valued by the community.
“Our officers have visited and will work with the police, the courts and others to remove the camp as quickly as the law allows.”
Swalecliffe councillor Keith Bothwell says the area is used by a lot of people and is popular with dog walkers, families and the elderly.
“It is a beautiful area on the fields next to the brook and also around Long Rock,” the Green Party representative said.
“There are birdwatchers and football is always being played – as well as a children’s play area.
“The travellers should be provided with sites, and it is the city council's responsibility to coordinate that.
“It will impact local people and take away some of their recreational areas.”
Police have been contacted for comment.
