Whitstable Town boss Lloyd Blackman hails fire power after arrival of Freddie Parker from Cray Wanderers

Whitstable Town boss Lloyd Blackman admits he has been encouraged by the spread of goals during his side’s impressive run of form.

Seven different players have scored in the Oystermen’s last five games across all formats, with Aaron Millbank the current top scorer on six.

Tuesday night’s 3-1 Velocity Trophy win over Ashford means the club have now lost just one of their last 11 games – their only defeat coming in extra-time against Ware in the FA Trophy.

Blackman said: “It’s certainly something that at the beginning of the season and when I took over we looked to address, there was a shortage of goals last season.

“If the right player came up then we’ve looked to get them in.

“We’ve got a lot of fire power which is really encouraging, I know we conceded one on Tuesday but I don’t think it was a penalty so we should be looking at another clean sheet.”

Blackman added to his attacking options again last week with the loan signing of Freddie Parker from Cray Wanderers. Having come off the bench to score on his debut in the 3-0 win over East Grinstead, he also played 80 minutes in Tuesday’s win over Ashford.

“He just brings immense quality,” added Blackman.

“I spoke to Tony (Cray manager Tony Russell) a month ago about Freddie, myself and the guys over at Cray have got a good relationship.

“We obviously brought over Marcus Evans from them and he’s spoken highly about how we do things here.

“Tony just wanted myself and the club to try and improve Freddie, where it goes from there we’ll wait and see.

“We lost Marshall (Wratten) last week but we had the opportunity to bring Freddie in who can play anywhere across the attacking third.

“He gives us a lot of quality, he’s another proven goalscorer and a really intelligent footballer.

“He's intelligent, strong, quick and he makes great decisions which at this level is a real key component.

“He just brings a lot of good thing to the table, he's fitted in straight away.”

Whitstable sit ninth in Isthmian South East and just three points off fourth-placed Ashford.

On Saturday they host VCD Athletic, who are seventh and two points ahead of Blackman’s men with a game in hand.

Blackman said: “VCD are a strong side who have been right up there for the last few years, from our point of view we want to maintain our high standards and doing what we’ve been doing.”
