Whitstable Town joint-manager Danny Ward not daunted by trip to Ryman League Division 1 South champions Burgess Hill Town

Whitstable Town joint-manager Danny Ward is looking to gatecrash the party when the Oystermen visit Ryman League Division 1 South champions Burgess Hill Town on Saturday.

The home side will be presented with their trophy before the game but Ward is adamant that his side are not just going along to make up the numbers.

He said: “What they have achieved this season has been fantastic and this presentation will be their crowning glory – it will be their moment.

“That doesn’t mean we cannot gatecrash the party and get a result there. We’ll be trying to win the game like every other one we play.”

But to do it, Ward admits his side, who dropped a place to eighth after the disappointing 2-1 loss against Corinthian Casuals at The Belmont last Saturday, need to improve on their last performance.

He said: “If we play like that and don’t turn up we will get turned over, and I have no intention of seeing that happening.

“We have drawn a line under what happened against Corinthian and moved on.

“We’ve got to be positive and remain focused on finishing the season well. Our best finish in the league is 14th and with two games to go the worst we can end up is ninth. However, we are only a point behind the team above us (Three Bridges) so we’ve got plenty of incentive to finish seventh at least.”
