A 5G mast could be destined for a residential neighbourhood, according to new plans.

The 15m tall mast in Kingsnorth, Ashford, would increase Three's coverage in the area.

A 5G mast is destined for Britannia Lane in Kingsnorth

The planning proposal submitted to Ashford Borough Council argues that the mast will address "acute capacity issues" in the area from its base on the Britannia Lane roundabout.

It also says that the construction, which needs to be built from scratch rather than incorporated with any existing structures, will blend in with the street lighting on the road.

"The proposed design has been selected to minimise visiual impact on the street scene... having similar vertical lines and overall appearance to the numerous street lighting columns in this area," it explained.

The mast, which would be the minimum height for a 5G mast according to the application, is set to tower over neighbouring trees as well as several houses in the street.

The proposal cited a previous application in the area, which was granted, which said that there would be "clear economic and social benefits" to the work.

It is open for comments, which are due by September 30.

This is the latest mast to be introduced by Three in the area, with its predecessors getting mixed receptions.

In Canterbury, residents hit out at plans to build a 20m mast on a leafy lane, with plans in Gillingham proving equally unpopular.

Elsewhere in the Ashford area, a 20m mast has also been planned for a site next to a post office in Newtown Green.
