Ashford Hockey Club’s James Spain has been selected for the National England under-18 squad.

The 17-year-old midfielder, pictured, is the club’s seventh junior to have achieved the honour and joins a 22-man squad for a year-long programme of training and matches.

Spain played in Ashford men’s 1sts’ 6-3 victory over Barnes on Saturday and was also part of the successful team who travelled to Jersey
on Sunday and defeated the
home side 3-0 in the EH Trophy.
