Assault victim's condition deteriorates

A 33-year-old Kent man is in hospital with serious head injuries after being assaulted in the street.

The incident happened in the vicinity of the bandstand in the High Street at Ashford in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim, who lives in the Ashford area, was initially taken to the nearby William Harvey Hospital. But his condition deteriorated and he was transferred to a London hospital where his condition is said to be serious.

Det Sgt Andy Chapman said: "We are anxious to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident. This was a serious assault."
