A BB gun has been found in a town centre.

It comes after a 'disturbance' sparked a heavy police presence in Ashford this afternoon - which later led to a man being arrested.

A heavy police presence was seen in the town centre

Around 10 officers, two police cars and a police dog were spotted in Gilbert Road, off New Street.

One witness, who did not want to be named, said: "I was passing by just after the police arrived.

"I saw an officer chase one lad and I saw a black pistol on the floor more or less outside the wedding dress shop. The pistol had a silencer on it."

It is not known if the BB gun is linked to the arrest, but police say it will form part of their inquires.

A police spokeswoman said: "We were called to New Street, Ashford at 1.05pm following a report of a disturbance.

"A BB Gun was found discarded and this will form part of the inquiries."
