A girl with a huge sense of fun and enjoyment was appropriately remembered at the weekend with a charity day in her name.

Daisy Washington died in a car crash in February 2007 aged 14. Since then her family and friends have raised thousands of pounds for charity and, on Saturday, they held a special golf day, fete and evening event.

It was held at Homelands golf club, Kingsnorth, where Daisy played in a golf academy.

Daisy’s dad’s team, Daisy’s Delights, won Saturday’s golf tournament.

Former football star Neil “Razor” Ruddock also played and Olympic gold medallist Jamie Staff dropped in at the last minute for nine holes.

Money is still coming in but organisers say they have met their target of £10,000, which will go to the Pilgrims Hospice.

A signed David Beckham shirt fetched £800 in an auction, which had kmfm radio presenter John “Webbo” Webster and former Everton and Wales footballer Neville Southall as auctioneers. Boxer Johnny Armour drew the raffle.

Daisy’s friend Becky Robinson sang touchingly and dancers from Highworth School performed.

Alison Lang, who had done much of the organising, said: “It was an amazing day.”

Daisy’s dad Joe Washington, said: “Our main aim was keeping Daisy’s name going with everyone enjoying themselves, because that’s what Daisy was like.”

The family and friends plan to make it an annual event.
