A saddle-sore couple rode slowly through Ashford town centre at the end of a marathon ride on Friday.

Veteran tennis players Graham Sutherland, 58, and his wife Beryl, 56, from Singleton, South Ashford, had pledged to spent 33 days on their bikes riding the 2,000-plus miles to Vienna and back.

The sponsored effort was to raise the final £5,000 needed to complete the £75,000 headquarters at Wye Tennis Club, where Mr Sutherland is chairman and his wife is treasurer.

They were greeted by a crowd of friends, family and club members.

Now the village club needs one final push to replace the 20-year-old portable building.
