Impressions of the new modern primary school planned for Ashford have been unveiled.

The two-form entry school will be built at the new housing development site Finberry, at Cheeseman’s Green, off the A2070.

Finberry Primary School will eventually take 60 children per year, in two classes, ultimately taking a total of 420 pupils.

Designs for the new primary school at Finberry have been unveiled

However, in the first three years of operation the admission number will be 30 annually, with a clear commitment to serve those living on the Finberry development.

The school will consist of a two-storey building, access, car parking, pick up and drop off bays, play areas and a grass playing field with hard and soft landscaping.

It will be built in Stour Meadows, which is one phase of the major housing development, and surrounded by trees.

A report on the new school states it will “provide the full range of teaching, learning and support facilities required to accommodate 420 students (reception, infant
and junior), 14 place Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision and 26 place Nursery".

The school will be able to take up to 420 pupils

Finberry Primary will be run by the Stour Academy Trust, after Kent County Council (KCC) named it as the preferred sponsor to the Department of Education, which then agreed with the selection. It will be the fifth school within the Trust.

The new build is expected to be ready for September 2016.

KCC says the school is intended to serve families living at Finberry and within walking distance.

The development will include a two storey building, car parking and play areas

When complete, Crest Nicholson’s Finberry development will see up to 1,180 homes created in a series of construction phases.

Other on-site facilities will include a convenience store, restaurant, health centre, a community centre and sports pitches.

A public consultation on the school will run until Thursday, May 28.
