Julian Collegde

A doctor is well on his way to Lands End as part of a sponsored walk to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Julian Colledge, who spent 27 years of his 40 year medical career as a GP in Hamstreet, has walked 500 miles since leaving Hamstreet on May 2 - and still has more than 150 miles to go.

Earlier this week he reached Cornwall and yesterday was on Rame Head, just west of Plymouth Sound. We spoke to him as he was watching seals swimming in the sea.

He said the recent hot weather has been "gruelling" and his efforts, for which he has so far raised over £2,000, have involved walking chest deep through the river Erme carrying his rucksack and boots on his head!

Dr Colledge decided to raise money for the charity after caring for many patients with the illness and being impressed by their courage and fortitude.

On his sponsorship page he says: "The toil of the journey is like a pilgrimage, the joy is for all those who have suffered from cancer."
