POLICE closed the M20 for three hours today to recover a lorry that had plunged down an 18-foot embankment at Ashford.

The articulated lorry left the motorway just after junction 9 by the Cineworld complex at about 5am.

The driver was travelling to London from Germany. Police say he escaped with only minor injuries.
