Saifuddin Ali, of Ashford, on trial after crash killed Tyrese Quigley

A teenager died after being thrown from his moped into a nearby crowd of people following a collision with a car, a court heard.

The car driver will now go to crown court over the death of 18-year-old Tyrese Quigley.

Folkestone Magistrates' Court heard that Mr Quigley had been driving north west towards the town centre along the A292 Hythe Road in, Willesborough, Ashford, when the accident happened on April 12 last year.

Saifuddin Ali had been travelling in a black Honda Civic in the opposite direction, Lewis Aldous, prosecuting, told the court.

The crash occurred at the junction of Hunter Road, outside the New Fox Inn.

Mr Aldous said: "Mr Quigley was thrown into a crowd of people and taken to hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on April 14."

Ali, 20, of Osborne Road, Willesborough, pleaded not guilty to causing death by driving without due care and attention.

Ali's defence counsel accepted Mr Aldous' recommendation that the case should go to crown court rather than magistrates' court trial.

Magistrates ordered that the case should be heard at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, May 30.

Ali was remanded on unconditional bail.

Members and friends from both families were in court to hear the proceedings.
