Police hunt man who told woman in Islamic dress she didn't belong in Wye

A man who told a woman wearing traditional Islamic dress she didn't belong in a village is being hunted by police.

The 32-year-old woman was outside a shop in Churchfield Way, Wye, when she was approached by the man at around 3pm on March 19.

The man, who doesn't know her, allegedly said: "This is a Christian village. You don't belong here. You shouldn't be dressed like that".

When the woman told his she was English he said she wasn't, and made a cross symbol with his hands.

Now police are treating the exchange as a hate crime.

The suspect is said to be white, aged 50 to 60 years, slim and wearing a dark-coloured beanie hat.

He was also wearing a dark-coloured jacket, purple trousers, black boots and gloves.
