Many readers have contacted us to support a campaign for a cinema to turn down the sound on its films.

We reported last week how television cameraman Derek Budd was campaigning to get the sound reduced at Ashford’s Cineworld cinema.

The company insists it is meeting industry guidelines.

Mr Budd's complaint follows a visit to view Slumdog Millionaire.

Now other cinemagoers have contacted the Kentish Express to say they agree with Mr Budd.

Helen Hewson, of Hastingleigh, said: "My daughter, who goes frequently to cinemas in London as well as locally and I had to sit with our fingers in our ears through some sequences in Slumdog Millionaire.

"Otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed the film, but it seems totally unnecessary to inflict that much discomfort on the audience."

Jan Mackay, of Folkestone, added: "I spent much of the time with my fingers in my ears as it was too painful to listen to otherwise."

Lucy Smith, of Godinton Park, Ashford, said:

"Whenever my husband and I visit the cinema, I always go armed with cotton wool to put in our ears."
