A popular food shop is giving dog owners a chance to show off their pets in an online competition.

Macknade - which has branches in Faversham and Ashford 's Elwick Place - launched a virtual dog show this month.

Dogs of all ages and sizes can be entered (42228536)

Running until September 30, the entrants will be judged in five main categories: Best Rescue Dog, Golden Oldie (dog over 8 years old), Prettiest Pup (under 1 year), Best Eyes and People’s Choice (the top five will be selected for voting on social media).

One dog can be entered into all five categories

Of these, one dog will be selected as overall winner and the owner will be given a free meal costing up to £30 at either of Macknade's shops.

The competition is being run in connection with Happy Endings Rescue, a charity caring for animals who have been abandoned or neglected.

Participants are encouraged to make a donation of £1 per entry by visiting www.happyendingsrescue.org/donate/ .

Participants can enter the competition by using the hashtag #dogsofmacknade on social media, setting your post privacy settings to “public”, or by emailing directly to Macknade at marketing@macknade.com.

Chris Johns, trustee at Happy Endings Rescue, said: "A virtual dog show is such a nice way to celebrate our wonderful furry friends and we’re thrilled to collaborate with Macknade and have some fun.

"What better way to enjoy their unique characters than to share them with others via this virtual dog show. We can’t wait to see the entries.

"The money raised will support our work and running costs to rescue and rehome dogs which have suffered abandonment, neglect, owner surrender or abuse.

"They have a home with us for as long as they need it. Every animal in our care will live with us until they find their forever home.”

The competition closes on September 30 and winners will be announced after October 5. The overall winner will be announced on October 12.
