Grass left smoking after lightning strike at Eureka Business Park in Ashford

A patch of grass has been left scorched after a lightning strike this afternoon.

Pictures show smoke drifting up from an area of grassland at Eureka Business Park in Ashford.

Eyewitnesses have take to Facebook to share what they saw, or more so, heard, with one saying: "It was so loud I thought it was a bomb."

Another added: "I saw it come down - I'm on the other side of Ashford."

The bolt is said to have been followed by an "almighty hailstorm".

It comes as the Met Office reports on "thundery showers" developing in Kent today, as well as "frequent lightning".
