Guests and staff at a hotel in Tenterden were evacuated this morning after a fire broke out in a laundry room.

Three fire engines from Ashford, Cranbrook and East Sussex, attended the London Beach Country Hotel, Spa and Golf Club, in Ashford Road, at around 6am to tackle a blaze that started in the first-floor room.

After getting the fire under control with water jets, crews had to use a ventilation fan to clear smoke from the first-floor corridor, but the fire itself had not spread.

The two-storey building had been completely evacuated by staff by the time the fire service arrived and no one was injured.

The cause is not yet known but is believed to be accidental.
