Residents of a Kent town were woken up by the sound of an explosion last night.

Several people in Ashford reported hearing a noise "like a bomb had gone off".

The noise was caught on CCTV as it echoed through the streets of Kennington

Little Burton resident Simon Higgins' security camera managed to capture the moment at about 11.30pm.

Many people quickly took to social media in an attempt to locate the source of the noise.

Speculation ran rife, with suggestions ranging from a sonic boom to a gun shot.
