A girl was hurled from her horse when a driver overtook her so closely the reins got caught on the car's wing mirror.

Police are hunting for the driver after the 14-year-old rider was treated in hospital following the incident in Ashford.

The car was reportedly so close the teenager was dragged along the road until the reins snapped, pulling her off the horse.

The horse rider was hit in Goldwell Lane

It happened near to the Blue Barn Equestrian Centre in Goldwell Lane, Great Chart.

In a post on Facebook, the victim's auntie said her niece had to roll out of the way to avoid being hit by the car.

She said: "My 14-year-old niece was out riding on her horse in Ashford right near Blue Barn when a grey/silver car full of young men revved up the car and decided to over take her on the inside.

"They were so close they got her reins stuck on their wing mirror dragging her and the horse along until the reins snapped and my niece was pulled off the horse.

"Her boot was pulled off by the car because they were driving so close.

"She just about rolled out the way of the car and they laughed at her and drove off.

"She was disoriented and had to run to stop her horse getting on to the main road. She couldn’t catch her horse and luckily my sister found it.

"My niece was out on her own riding. She’s gone to hospital and has some tissue damage and is in major shock."

Police have now launched an investigation to find the driver of the car - who did not stop to offer help to the girl.
