Hythe boss Scott Porter believes Tom Parkinson will be a valuable asset after seeing a "quality" debut from the young centre-back.

Parkinson was one of Porter’s summer signings, joining from Maidstone United. His arrival has also freed-up Dave Cook and given him licence to attack from midfield.

Both players were on target on Saturday as Hythe held Blue Square Bet South Tonbridge Angels – a team playing two divisions higher this season - to a 2-2 draw.

Porter (pictured) said: "We played well and we were up against a full-strength squad. We matched them in every area and could have won it."

He added: "Tom has been in and out of training because of injury but he came in for us on Saturday and he was fantastic.

"His performance was quality and he lasted the 90 minutes. For a 20-year-old, he has plenty to offer."

Hythe eased to a 4-1 win at Ashford United on Tuesday, with goals from Simon Austin (2), Lloyd Blackman and
Craig Thompson.

On Saturday, they entertain Herne Bay in the Kent League Challenge Shield (3pm kick-off).
