Town striker Paul Jones takes on the Whyteleafe defence during Saturday's 3-2 win. Boss Steve Lovell hopes his players can now push on.

Ashford Town boss Steve Lovell is prepared to give reserve keeper Darren Ibrahim a run in the side after losing his regular No.1 to injury.

A medial ligament injury to Scott Chalmers-Stevens marred Ashford’s first Ryman League, Division 1 South win of the season against Whyteleafe and the keeper is likely to be out for around two months.

Ibrahim, a former Gillingham YTS player, and fellow reserve keeper Dan Mason will now be given the chance to show their worth as Ashford look to build on the win.

Lovell said: "Scott’s injury is a big blow and he was starting to play well in the last couple of games.

"Darren will be given a chance and we’ll see how he goes. He’s waited long enough and all last year he
was playing reserve team football.

"You’ve got to give people a chance and he has waited around and we’ll give him a go.

"Dan Mason has earned rave reviews in the reserves. We’ve got ample cover and it’s up to Darren and Dan to prove their worth and make sure I don’t need to bring anyone in."

Ashford are away to Corinthian Casuals on Saturday and Lovell hopes they can build on the 3-2 victory over Whyteleafe.

"The win was a long time coming and we deserved it," he added.

"We’ve been threatening to win a game and it’s nice to get the first win out of the way.

"It’s nice to be off the bottom and we need to push on now."
