A magic quartet who met in Kent have failed to be crowned Britain's Got Talent champions.

Despite a sterling performance, 4MG - which features Harry Nardi from Ashford and Theo Mallalieu from Hythe - were knocked out last night shortly before singing Royal Chelsea Pensioner Colin Thackery was crowned as this year's champion.

The teenagers have attracted a lot of media attention since their audition aired, being dubbed a "magical boyband".

They met in Kent, with 18-year-old Mr Nardi's dad owning Alakazam Magic Shop in Ashford.

He works there with 17-year-old Mr Mallalieu, and the group's other two members - Josh Hennes and James Samuel - are frequent customers of the store.

The judges were wowed in the semi-finals when their performance featured a cameo from Stavros Flatley, the Cypriot father-son dance team who won the nation's hearts in the 2009 series of Britain's Got Talent.

Unfortunately their mesmerising tricks weren't enough to place them in the bookies' top three to win, with the 89-year-old singer Colin Thackery the hot favourite to win going into the live final yesterday.

Over the course of their Britain's Got Talent run, the four lads have attracted a much larger fanbase and now hope to go on a live tour and perform more across Kent and the country.
