Players in the Mayor of Ashford's challenge match

Both sides in a challenge cricket match ended up with exactly the same score.

The Mayor of Ashford's XI and a Bethersden Cricket Club side both recorded 157 runs during a friendly on Sunday.

Umpire Michael Claughton said: “It was a tie but the score was an extraordinary coincidence.”

The match was held at the Bethersden club’s ground at Bull Green and the Mayor’s team was made up of members of several clubs in the Ashford area.

Among the top scorers were Stuart Payne, of the Mayor’s XI, who scored 55 runs and Dan McDonald of Bethersden Cricket Club who scored 60.

Ashford Mayor John Link, an experienced former player, supported his team from the sidelines.
