Two lorries were engulfed in flames in the early hours at a truck park.

Five fire engines were scrambled to the blaze after receiving a call at 2.19am.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus, a thermal imaging camera and a high pressure hose jet reel to tackle the flames at Ashford International Truckstop in Waterbrook Avenue, Ashford.

They also used compressed air foam, which creates a blanket reducing the amount of oxygen that can then feed a fire.

A bulk water carrier was also sent to the scene.

Both vehicles were destroyed in the blaze, which is thought to have started by accident.

No one was injured and fire crews left the scene shortly before 6.30am.

A spokesman for Ashford International Truckstop said: "The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

"Two trucks were badly damaged and the prompt action of our on-site security staff in following our fire safety plan and moving other vehicles prevented any further spread.

"Kent Fire and Rescue Service crews arrived quickly and we would like to thank them for their professionalism in dealing with this incident.

"We are working closely with the Environment Agency on the clean up operation and the Truckstop remains fully open."
