Man fighting for life after attack behind bingo hall

The scene of the attack in Ashford

A man is in a critical but stable condition in hospital after an assault in Ashford town centre yesterday morning.

The assault happened in an alley which runs between the lower High Street to the car park behind the bingo hall at 2.39am.

The victim was taken to William Harvey Hospital with potentially life threatening head injuries and is due to be transferred to a London hospital.

A 21-year-old local man has been arrested and is in police custody.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
