Man seriosuly injured after car crashes into flyover across the M20 at junction 9 and catches fire

A man was seriously injured after his car hit a bridge across the M20 and burst into flames.

Fire, ambulance crews and police were all called to junction 9 near Ashford at 11pm last night to reports a car had crashed into the flyover.

The vehicle caught fire, leaving the 22-year-old driver tapped inside.

He was released and treated at the scene for thorax, abdomen and upper arm injuries.

He was taken to the William Harvey Hospital by South East Coast Ambulance Service, who then liaised with crews from the air ambulance.

He was then transported by land ambulance to King's College Hospital in London.

The road was closed until 2am to allow officers to carry out their investigation and for recovery of the vehicle.

A spokesman for SECamb said: "We received a call just after 11pm to attend a road traffic accident involving one car and one male patient.

"Police and fire were also at the scene, with the patient trapped and the car on fire.

"SECAmb sent several crews including a critical care paramedic crew, to treat the patient who suffered serious arm and chest injuries."
