A massive fire at an industrial estate is still smoking more than 48 hours after it started.

Residents near the Cobbs Wood estate are still being advised to keep their windows shut due to the smoke.

One man was taken to hospital for burns and smoke inhalation during the fire , the cause of which is now under investigation.

While firefighters work to dampen down hotspots to prevent the blaze from fully re-igniting, the damage it has caused is clear to see.

With the remains of the LMR Tyre Recycling centre still smouldering, the warehouse next door has been almost completely gutted.

The warehouse is owned by Biffa, the company that runs waste collection and recycling in Ashford.

Despite the damage, an Ashford Borough Council spokeswoman said that bin collections are not expected to be affected further.

Cllr Andrew Buchanan, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Land Management, said: “Firstly on behalf of Ashford Borough Council I would like to express my sincere thanks to Kent Fire and Rescue for their swift action in tackling the fire, and our thoughts are with the individual who was harmed by the blaze.

“I would also like to thank our contractors Biffa for working with our officers to ensure that our waste collection service continues and that disruption is kept to a minimum.

"We ask our residents to please bear with us over the next few weeks while we work around the effects of the fire to the Biffa depot.”
