A FACTORY worker charged with murdering 21-year-old Ashford woman Amanda Champion appeared before Maidstone Crown Court today.

James Ford, 26, of Hunter Avenue, Willesborough, Ashford, was brought into courtroom eight. During the short hearing he spoke only to confirm his name.

Members of Miss Champion's family were in the public gallery.

Mr Ford had previously appeared before magistrates at Canterbury where he had been remanded to the crown court. Today he was remanded in custody until January 5, 2004, for a plea and directions hearing.
