Neil Cugley pleased Folkestone Invicta players are finding their feet

Folkestone boss Neil Cugley says he is pleased and proud of his young players for finding their feet in the Ryman League Premier Division – despite the side waiting for their first win.

Monday’s goalless draw at home to Tonbridge Angels – secured by Jack Delo’s second-half penalty save from Frannie Collin – earned Invicta their second point of the campaign.

However, Cugley (pictured) was just as satisfied with the showing in the 1-0 loss at Sutton on Saturday.

He said: "I’m pleased the players have settled down now. We have got some young players, especially at the back and they have settled and shown they can defend at a higher level.

"Ten of our starting 11 were from the side that played last year and they have been a credit to the club and to themselves because it looked difficult for us on paper but they’ve done ever so well.

"The players are starting to believe they can play at this level. I’ve been telling them that all along – and that is good for the club.

"We have faced three difficult sides and competed well and we’ve gone away to a tricky place like Aveley on a Monday night and got something.

"The players have done the club proud and we have now got to build on that. We know we’ve got to get points but the foundation is there. I’m pleased with how things are going."

Invicta’s tough schedule continues with a long trip to Lowestoft on Saturday, followed by a home game against Kingstonian on Tuesday.
