The loyalty of Folkestone Invicta supporters has been praised by manager Neil Cugley.

A crowd of 244 turned out to see the final Ryman League, Premier Division game of the season, despite knowing their side was doomed to finish bottom.

Cugley, whose side finished with just five wins from 42 games, said: "The fans have been tremendous.

"They have got behind the goal and sung and shouted at every game. You could understand if there was some moaning but I have no complaints about that.

"This is a good club and we just got promotion to the Premier Division a bit early. The standard was a bit too high."

Cugley is planning to stay to guide the relegated side in next season’s Division 1, where they will have two local derbies against newly-crowned Safety Net Kent League champions Hythe.

Cugley said: "It will be nice for me, I can walk there from where I live!

"It would be even nicer to get back to the days when we were beating Dover but that’s a bit far off at the moment."
