The M20 near Ashford has reopened after a horsebox carrying two horses flipped on its side

A horse is believed to have been injured in an accident which closed part of the M20 this morning.

Emergency services were called to the west-bound carriageway between Junctions 11 (Westenhanger) and 10 (Ashford) at about 8.05am.

A full closure was put in place from Junction 11 and the road reopened at 10.45am.

Diversions were put in place to direct traffic off at Junction 11 on to the A20 westbound through Newingreen, Sellindge and Smeeth.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "It was reported a horsebox carrying two horses, for reasons unknown, flipped on its side.

"The grey Land Rover Discovery carrying the horsebox remained in position and no injuries were reported.

"One horse is believed to have suffered injuries."

The Highways Agency advised drivers to allow extra time for their journeys if travelling in the area.
