Pensioner falls in Barclays bank in Ashford High Street

An elderly man suffered a head injury after falling down an escalator in a town centre bank.

An ambulance was called to Barclays bank in Ashford at around 11am.

The pensioner sustained a head injury and was transported to the William Harvey Hospital.

An eyewitness said: "I was walking down the stairs and just as I got to the bottom the man was getting on the escalator.

"It looked like he tripped or lost balance and he suddenly fell down head first.

"The escalator was still moving and I couldn't find the button to turn it off so I shouted for help.

"A man came running down and two workers called an ambulance."

An ambulance spokesman said: "One ambulance attended Barclays Bank in High Street to reports a patient had a fall on an escalator at 11.10am.

"The patient was treated for a head wound at the scene and then taken to hospital for further treatment."
