A 52-year-old man was assaulted in what police say was an unprovoked attack.

It happened on a cycle path between Victoria Park and Beaver Road in Ashford at around 6.30pm last Wednesday.

The man was walking along the path when he was approached by two women and two men.

As they passed him, one of the men lashed out at the victim, striking him on the right side of his face. The group continued to walk away and then stopped by the footbridge, talking.

The man suffered a large lump and reddening above his right eye.

Police believe a cyclist who was in the area at the time may have information that will help their investigation, and have asked him to come forward.

Anyone with information should contact police on 01303 289180.
