A man wanted in connection with a bag snatch at a train station may come from Ashford.

Transport police have released images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the theft, which happened at Stratford DLR station.

It happened on Monday, February 8 when a woman entered the station and approached a man asking him for help in topping up her Oyster card.

He wore a dark jacket and a cap with a white logo on it

The man assisted her and then helped her find her train.

The seemingly-helpful man then briefly left the station, before returning, running onto the train and snatching the victim’s bag.

He then ran off, taking with him a small amount of cash.

An investigation has now led police to think the man might be from Ashford.

Investigating officer PC Michael Stephenson said: “We believe the man responsible originally travelled from Ashford in Kent.

"Therefore it is possible that he lives around there or has connections within Ashford.”

He added: “This is a particularly cruel crime as the victim was lulled into a false sense of security by someone she had asked for assistance.

"Thankfully he only got hold of a small amount of cash, however it is important we catch him and bring him to justice.”
