Police are investigating a case of arson after two fires broke out in a bathroom at the same property in Ashford last night.

Fire crews were called to the bedsit in Beaver Road at 8.35pm, and again at 9.56pm, to a report that a small fire had broken out in a ground floor bathroom.

Two fire engines were sent on both occasions and the fires were successfully extinguished. It is reported that a shower curtain was damaged from the second fire.

The fires are both being treated as suspicious, and officers are now investigating.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "We attended at 10pm last night after KFRS advised that a crew had been to a fire in the communal bathroom of the property that is divided up into eight bedsits.

"As police officers went to check the bathroom, smoke was coming from it from a second fire.

"This one damaged a shower curtain. I can confirm that the fires are being treated as arson and crime scenes investigators have been there this morning."
