Police investigate car fire in Sevington Lane in Ashford

Police have launched an investigation after a car burst into flames.

The vehicle, a black Vauxhall Antara, was discovered ablaze at 11.10pm last night in Ashford.

Found in Sevington Lane close to the junction with Boys Hall Road, a witness said about 70% of the car was destroyed by the flames.

Fire crews were called just after 11pm and a spokesman said the cause of the incident is being treated as suspicious.

A police spokeswoman said: "Officers are investigating a report of a car fire which took place in Sevington Lane, Ashford, between 8.45pm and 11.30pm on Tuesday.

"Patrols attended the scene with fire crews.

"Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area or has any information regarding the fire is asked to call police on 01843 222289, quoting 46/26957/20."
