Would-be-thieves used a concrete block to smash their way into a convenience store.

The raid was at the Spar shop in Coast Drive, Greatstone. A neighbour alerted police after hearing a loud crashing sound.

He saw two or three men outside the front of the store and then run off in the direction of New Romney.

The raid happened during the early hours of Monday, December 29, between 1.30am and 1.40am.

The men didn’t manage to steal any stock, although the smashed 10ft x 8ft window will cost around £800 to replace.

The window was boarded up the following day and trading continued as normal.

Police would like to speak to anyone who has information that might help their inquiries. Contact South Kent Police on 01303 289180. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
